On July 11, The vicar-in-charge Mark Battison, on behalf of St. Andrew's Church, the PCC, the Friends of Spratton

Church and the Community, held a consultation exhibition and bar-b-q at the vicarage. Various changes are being planned to the Church to make it more multi-purpose. These included a toilet, new kitchen area, removal of pews at the back of the church, a meeting room, and some essential repair. Community views were sought via a feed-back form.

Derelict Sites in Spratton in 1953.

There was a significant amount of correspondence about the problem of unsightly sites iin Spratton of demolished houses where a pile of rubble had been left on the site leaving it very unsightly and affecting "the amenity of the village".

There is a memorandum about the sites.  Images 3090 - 3094 are photographs taken at the time, one of each site together with the entry in the memorandum about that site.

The memorandum concludes by saying:

"I am having prepared a set of photographs which whould show in some detail the state of the respective sites and these will be forwarded within a few days time."

Derelict Sites in Spratton 1953 - Site Number 1.

The relevant entry in the memorandum is:

Manor Road (Mr A Darling)  (in pencil:  Gaywood, Spratton)

A considerable amount of rubble remains on the site together with the foundations of the original cottages.  Part of the end wall of the cottages remains standing at the north-west of the site.  The area is overgrown with nettles and other weeds.

Manor Road (Anthony Hodgetts Trust)  in pencil:  W V Cross bought it, Home Farm, Spratton.

This site has been left in a very rough state and the quantity of rubble which remains is now largely overgrown with weeds.  Some household rubbish has been dumped on the site.  The ground rises rather steeply from Manor Road to the west and rear wall of the original cottage have been left standing to retain the earth at the rear.  A group of sycamores are growing near the northern boundary.

Derelict Sites in Spratton 1953 - Site Number 3.

The relevant entry in the memorandum is:

Site of White House (Mr J Blundell)  in pencil:  Butcher(??)  10 Alexandra Terrace, Kingsthorpe.

Appearances suggest this house has been demolished fairly recently.  The original walls on the south and east sides remain standing to about 1st floor level.  The area is littered with a quantity of old bricks, rubble and timber and a dilapidated old timber shed remains standing on the rear of the site.  The eastern end of the site is overgrown with weeds.

Site adjoining Greenwood's Shop

This area has been purchased by Mr Greenwood who has been granted planning permission for the erection of a private garage and boundary wall.

Work is already in progress and when completed should present a very neat appearance.
